Our EVS: Sophie & Nina

¡Hola!

My name is Sophie, I am an eighteen-year-old german girl, who decided to go abroad for one year to do voluntary work.
So I applied for the EVS – European Voluntary Service – in Spain.
And now, since the first of October, I am living in Valderrobres, a small but very adorable village in Aragon.

Here in Valderrobres I work in the Comarca Matarranya, more precisely in the youth department of the Comarca.
As I came here not speaking a word of Spanish, the beginning is pretty difficult.
My partners at work talk English to me – a very good fact.
But I have to learn the language very quickly, as there are not many people speaking English.
And I am motivated to do this.
Now – after two weeks – I understand some words and in most cases I vaguely know what people are talking about, but I have to practise a lot within the next few weeks.

But back to my work here:
As I have already mentioned, I am working in the division which organizes different activities for young people of the Comarca.
I am looking forward to help preparing exciting events for young people and to getting to know the youth of Spain.

Together with Nina, another volunteer from Germany working in the Comarca, I am living together in a nice flat.
We like each other and we have already experienced a lot.
For example we have discovered the wonderful nature of Matarranya when we went to the top of “La Caixa”, hiked the “Ruta el Parrizal” or watched a man feeding vultures living in the wild.

I am very happy to have the chance to get involved and to discover a new culture, differnent ways of living and new people.

So far, so good. ¡I keep you posted!
¡Hasta luego!

Sophie

¡Hola chicos y chicas!

Me llamo Nina y soy una voluntaria europea de Alemania. Tengo 19 años y voy a vivir en Valderrobres por un año.

Well, for now it´s easier for me to write in English.

I am Nina and I’m currently living one year abroad in Spain exploring a new culture and trying to learn a new language. I am one of the two lucky girls who get to do an EVS (European Voluntary Service) or SVE (Servicio Voluntario Europeo) in the Comarca Matarraña, Aragón.

Same as Sophie I work in the Comarca Matarraña. I work in the cultural department where I help to organize and prepare events for all the people in the different “pueblos” (villages) of the Comarca.

Matarraña is a beautiful area and I really enjoy living in between mountains and fields full of olive trees. Valderrobres is a really nice city, too, and I love living right in town.

Riding your bike just right out of town you are surrounded by beautiful nature. Growing up by the North Sea in Germany, I am always amazed by all the mountains here.

I am excited for the upcoming new experiences and can´t wait to write about them!

¡Hasta Luego!

Nina
